Getting started

How to install an EA on MetaTrader 4

Follow these steps once, the first time you set up PropulsionBot on a new desktop, laptop, or VPS.

  1. Make sure you have installed the MetaTrader 4 platform onto your desktop, your laptop, or your VPS.

  2. Download your PropulsionBot Expert Advisor.

  3. Open the download folder in which you have saved your EA, then select and copy it.

  4. Open your MT4 platform, then go to File > Open Data Folder and in the new window go into MQL4 > Experts folder.

  5. Paste your EA into that folder, then restart your MT4 platform, or refresh your Navigator window in MT4.

Tip: once installed, PropulsionBot appears under Expert Advisors in your Navigator window. Drag it onto any chart to attach it — then move on to loading a preset below.
Configuration

How to load a preset

Presets are provided as .set files, one per supported index. Loading the right one configures PropulsionBot automatically for that market.

  1. Make sure PropulsionBot is already attached to a chart. If it isn't yet, see How to install an EA on MetaTrader 4 above.

  2. Download the preset file (.set) for the index you want to trade — for example SP500.set — from your customer area.

  3. In MT4, double-click PropulsionBot in the Navigator (or drag it onto your chart) to open the EA properties window.

  4. In the properties window, go to the Inputs tab.

  5. Click Load... at the bottom of the Inputs tab.

  6. Browse to the folder where you saved the preset file, select it, then click Open.

  7. Click OK to apply the preset and start trading.

Tip: repeat this for every additional index you trade — one chart per preset. Loading a new .set file always overwrites the previous inputs on that chart.

Recommended broker: Tickmill.eu

PropulsionBot runs on MT4, so it needs a broker that allows automated trading (EAs), executes fast, and keeps your funds safe. We recommend Tickmill.

Recommended VPS: TradingFXVPS

A VPS keeps PropulsionBot running 24/5, right next to your broker's servers, so it isn't affected by a home internet drop, a laptop going to sleep, or a power cut. We recommend TradingFXVPS.

TradingFXVPS — Forex-grade VPS hosting

TradingFXVPS is a VPS provider built specifically for MT4/MT5 traders and EAs, with data centers located in major financial hubs (London, New York, Frankfurt, Amsterdam) to minimise the distance — and therefore the latency — between PropulsionBot and your broker's execution server.

Configuration

News filter: FXSSI News Indicator

To let PropulsionBot manage economic news events, it reads the news lines drawn by FXSSI.Calendar — a free news indicator. Install it on the same chart as the EA.

FXSSI logo
FXSSI Forex Sentiment Board — free MT4/MT5 tools for retail traders
  1. Download the free FXSSI.Calendar indicator (MT4 version) from fxssi.com/forex-news-indicator-mt4.

  2. Unzip the archive into the MQL4 > Indicators folder of your terminal (File > Open Data Folder in MT4).

  3. Restart your MT4 terminal, or refresh your Navigator window.

  4. Double-click FXSSI.Calendar in the Navigator to attach it to the same chart as PropulsionBot.

  5. Check the Allow DLL imports box and click OK. The indicator's news lines will appear on the chart.

  6. Set the chart's timeframe to M15 — even if PropulsionBot's own analysis timeframe input is set to H1.

Important: the chart must be displayed on M15 for the news filter to work correctly, regardless of the Timeframe Analysis input used by PropulsionBot's own strategy (which can stay on H1). If the chart is on any other timeframe, the EA cannot read the FXSSI news lines and the news filter is effectively disabled.

Copy trading robots are not supported

Copy trading not supported

Do not run a copier/copy-trading EA on the same MT4 terminal

PropulsionBot is designed to manage its own orders directly on your MT4 account. If a copy-trading robot, trade copier, or signal copier EA is also active on that terminal, it will interfere with PropulsionBot's order management and will block the EA from working correctly.

  • No copier EA / trade copier on the same MT4 terminal as PropulsionBot
  • No third-party signal-copying software managing the same account
  • Run PropulsionBot on a dedicated MT4 account for that broker/index

If you need to copy PropulsionBot's trades to other accounts, contact support — some copy setups may be possible on the receiving account, but never on the account where PropulsionBot itself is attached.
